 H&M

H&M is FINALLY coming to Nashville

I can’t really express my extreme jubilation at this occurrence.  There is no date yet but they will be building a custom space in Opry Mills!!!

I am production stage managing Cabaret for Tennessee Repertory Theatre

Cabaret

If you are in the Nashville area you should come and see it and support your girl.  It runs February 16-March 9 with previews on Feb 14 & 15.  It will be extended through March 16 and may be extended further.  I would be a great Valentine’s Date Night Event and its cost friendly.

I have also started teaching part-time at my undergrad MTSU

I am not longer blonde and am officially a red head! At first I have to admit I wasn’t feeling it, but I do love it now.  I used a Ion’s Demi Permanent in Dark Copper Blonde. Demi permanents work best when coloring lightened hair.  I used two boxes and a 10 developer.  Never use more than a 10 developer with a demi permanent.

This is a twistout that I installed on Saturday Night.  I blew out my hair last week and wanted to keep as much length as possible so I only used a small amount of Hydratherma Natural Daily Growth Lotion on each twisted section. I untwisted and fluffed this morning.

Here’s today’s OOTD! Dress is one of my favs its gotta be close to 10 years old.  This was Isaac Mizrahi when he first started doing lines for Target.  The belt is also Target.  Leather Tassle Necklace is Asos. I have on my Steve Madden Camel Boots.

I am honestly falling in love with Nashville all over again.  African St. Festival is this weekend along with Wine on the River which is sold out.

Today’s OOTD Blue Jean Queen…you can find the details o the Youtube

But I am most psyched about the fact that Carrie Mae Weems newest exhibit, Carrie Mae Weems: Three Decades of Photography and Video, is also going up at The Frist Center and opens on the 21st and I can tell you how geeked I am. The Scene also has a dope article of the topic.

There’s also an interesting article at the Huffington Post with the Curator Kathryn E. Delmez of the Exhibit who works at The Frist Center. She speaks about Weems and” how From a young age, [she has] been interested in learning more about people who are different from [her] and various “hidden histories,” as Weems calls the stories not written into mainstream accounts.”

I will leave you with this really dope list of upcoming events in Nashville that I also found over at the Nashville Scene

Sept. 20:  Nfocus Al Fresco Enjoy appetizers and four courses — including family-style entrees — created by Chef Bart Pickens of Loveless Event Catering. There will also be wine, beer and cocktail pairings all served outside on the grounds of the plantation, with proceeds benefiting Mercy Children’s Clinic. 6 p.m. at Carnton Plantation

Sept. 20-22: Nashville Whiskey Festival This three-day festival starts with a VIP Tasting and Symposium and ends with the main event, an afternoon tasting as well as seminars conducted by spirit experts. A portion of ticket sales will benefit Nashville Clean Water Project. War Memorial Auditorium

Sept. 21-22: Southern Ground Music and Food Festival Oorganized by musical foodies The Zac Brown Band, Southern Ground will feature music from a variety of top country, alt-country, rock and pop acts alongside food from the band’s own cook as well as some of Nashville’s food trucks, restaurants and caterers. The Lawn at Riverfront Park

Sept. 22: The Great Food Truck Festival

The Lenox Village neighborhood is hosting a festival of food trucks in southeast Davidson County that will also include family-friendly live entertainment. A portion of the trucks’ proceeds will be donated to Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee. 5 p.m. at Lenox Village Square

Sept. 30: East Nashville Cocktail Crawl Sample signature cocktails at Watanabe World Cuisine, No. 308, Rumors East, Pomodoro East and enjoy access to the Tasting Room, which will focus on 1-ounce tastings of boutique spirits and liquors. VIP crawlers will also have access to a food and cocktail pairing event at The Holland House Bar & Refuge.

Oct. 9: Charlie Daniels Scholarships for Heroes Dinner

Dine on The Palm’s surf-and-turf while being entertained by Charlie himself. The dinner raises funds benefiting Sentinels of Freedom, an organization that helps injured veterans. 6:30 p.m. at The Palm

Oct. 13: Jog ‘n’ Hog Nashville’s iconic candy, Goo Goo Clusters, celebrates its 100th birthday this year with a number of events throughout the fall. As part of the celebration, the candy is hosting Jog ‘n’ Hog, in which participants jog two miles, eat Goo Goo Clusters and then jog another two miles. The event coincides with the 100th birthday of Shelby Park as well. 8:30 a.m. at Shelby Park

Oct. 13: Oktoberfest

Historic Germantown — home to some of the oldest residences in the city — invites the rest of Nashville to celebrate their German heritage at this free event that takes place throughout the neighborhood. The festival features a beer garden, authentic German food and entertainment, as well as a special play area just for the kids. 9 a.m. at Seventh Avenue and Monroe Street

Oct. 14: Battle of the Food Trucks

The food trucks step back in the ring to raise money for The Tomorrow Fund. Sample from the trucks and vote for your favorites. 3 p.m. at Greer Stadium

Oct. 14: Nashville Chili Festival

This all-ages event includes music, a chili pepper eating contest, activities for the kids and, of course, chili tastings and beer. Proceeds benefit Community Shares. Noon at Yazoo Brewing Co.

Oct. 19: Franklin Wine Festival The festival includes a number of vintner dinners and seminars, but the big event is the Grand Tasting with more than 300 wines to sample and food from more than 30 restaurants and confectioners. 7 p.m. at The Factory at Franklin

Nov. 2: Wine Down Main Street

Franklin will close off traffic as Main Street merchants host special wine, beer and food tastings. Ticket prices include entertainment and all tastings. Proceeds benefit Boys & Girls Clubs of Middle Tennessee, Franklin and Fairview Clubhouses. 7 p.m. on Main Street in Downtown Franklin

Nov. 3: Anthony Bourdain: Guts and Glory

For one night, you can listen to Bourdain tell stories of his past culinary exploits while funding his future adventures. 8 p.m. at TPAC’s Jackson Hall

Dec. 1: 12South Winter Warmer

The season’s best craft beer tasting event will also have music and plenty of food to soak up that beer. Tickets go on sale Oct. 26 at 9 a.m. They sold out within a few hours last year, so keep that date and time handy. Benefits The Workshop/Oasis Center. 11 a.m. at Sevier Park —Lesley Lassiter

June 22, 2012

Today is my last day in the office, but I still have to work this weekend. The true celebration will begin on Sunday. I’m sure here is where I am supposed to say how BitterSweet this, but it’s not, my leaving DC will be bittersweet and leaving all my hard work with SunFest, but not leaving this job, the atmosphere, the people, the toxicity not gonna miss it at all.   They are throwing me a going away lunch and so I am playing along. I am still waiting for that moment when I can finally exhale and I don’t think it will be until I officially cross the Tennessee State Line!

I am loving this statement necklace that I got from H&M (shown above)

You know what time it is! Pretty sure the weather went from pleasant to hell overnight.  I am not complaining I would rather have heat than cold, but sheeesh can you ease me into it just a bit.  Guess not, out of the frying pan and into the fire.

Tuesday’s OOTD and I’m still rockin my No Makeup Face just some mascara and gloss.  Another reason I’ll be happy to get back to Tennessee,  I had issues with my skin when I lived on the West Coast, and issues on the East Coast though not as many, and as much as I complain about the HumidSouth my hair and skin act best under those circumstances.

Click after the jump for more details on today’s ‘Fit and also a Natural Hair Quick Tip for easy texture.  I’m planning on getting back into the habit of doing more posts on natural hair, these posts just require more time and effort and will be easier for me to do once I am back home!

So here’s the deal.  I LOVE PATTERN MIXING.  There are so many different way to put together an outfit that involves really paying attention to the details.  I often do this sometimes without even realizing. Funny thing is when I was in High School I wanted everything to match perfectly, which makes me cringe today.

So even when I pattern mix I still try to find some sort of theme. I’ve got plenty of tribal patterns in my closet. In this OOTD I am playing around with geometric shapes (triangles specifically here) Which  you can see echoed in the top, shorts, and sandals!

Tips for Pattern Mixing

  • Pair a Large Print and Small Print
  • Find a Theme. It can be based on color, shapes, design, or whatever your creative minds finds.  The clothes you wear should be a reflection of you.
  • Don’t think about it, if you are too worried about mixing the wrong patterns, close your eyes and pick, then try pulling the outfit together with accessories.

Pattern Mixing is def one of my signatures, what is a signature look for you?

Cropped Top F21 Summer 2011 I DIY Chopped to make it Cropped

Shorts originally Target Jumpsuit Spring 2010. I chopped the halter top off it has an shirred elastic waist which made it an easy snip and no need for sewing.

Oversized Brown Leather Belt Target (some years ago)

Rhinestone Sandals Target Summer 2007

H&M Zebra Pouch (yes I am pretty much wearing this with everything)

I am so in LOVE with the re-usable bags that F21 is selling.  They are only $1.50 and they come in so many different patterns. I’ve actually DIY’d one and made it into a clutch. Guess I should do a post about that. Either way they are a great steal,  and if you’ve always got too many things to carry with you they are convenient too!

Hammered Bronze Earrings (quite possible my all time fav pair) F21

Bracelets all miscellaneous

In Jr. High I swore off yellow, it seemed like every time I wore anything yellow folks would comment on how I looked sick, I didnt get it then, but now I know its about the shade of yellow.  Either way Yellow is probably one of my fav colors for 2012. The Neons are crazy popular right now and I love them too but Im not a fan of looking like the rest of the crowd.  For me especially in a season where something might be trendy even if I like the trend I always aim to find different way to play around and also to make the trend my own.

How do you find a balance between trendy and your own style?
